BNE is pleased to announce that its Czech member České Radiokomunikace (CRA) has now completed the transition from DVB-T to DVB-T2 and released the 700 MHz band.
There were four DVB-T networks in operation in the Czech Republic. The last DVB-T transmitter was switched off on 28 October 2020. The new four DVB-T2@HEVC networks are in full operation.
The transition to DVB-T2 resulted in an increase of the number of broadcasted television channels and of picture quality of TV channels to HD. The process was smooth thanks to a large information campaign, a certification process of DVB-T2@HEVC receivers since 2016 and the transition through transitional networks.
Despite difficulties during the transition due to the C-19 pandemic, DTT’s strong position was maintained: All TV broadcasters that broadcast in DVB-T switched to DVB-T2 networks. The network still covers 96.5-99% of the population, and 40% of stations broadcast in HD or full HD resolution (progressive 50 Hz).
700 MHz band auction phase was complete on November 13th 2020. The 700 MHz band has been acquired by O2, Vodafone and T-Mobile.
